The Bishopric of Public, Ecumenical and Social Services (BLESS) has become a member of Egypt’s National Alliance for Civil Development Work (NACDW), following signing an agreement with the NACDW earlier this month.
Launched in March 2022, the Alliance’s initiatives aim at supporting vulnerable groups and low-income people by providing them with financial support and economic empowerment.
It was launched in participation and with membership of major civil institutions that work on development in Egypt. Currently, it includes more than 30 associations, civil societies, and service and development entities.
Established in 1962, BLESS is the Coptic Orthodox Church’s social development arm, serving poor people in Egypt. Its services have been reached in over 50 dioceses, 15 governorates and 523 communities.
BLESS’ plan in 2023 covers targets including increasing interventions that support the provision of food for the most vulnerable groups including children, pregnant women, the disabled and elderly people.
According to Anba Yuluis, Bishop-General of Old Cairo Churches and BLESS, joining the NACDW alliance came upon encouragement from Pope Tawadros II; the aim is to contribute to the development of Egypt for the sake of a decent life for every Egyptian.
