The Coptic Orthodox Church issued a statement on 18 June 2022 commending the Egyptian initiative launched by President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi to allocate USD500 million for the reconstruction of Gaza. The initiative comes in the wake of the Israeli air strikes against Gaza, which the Church had condemned two days ago, and aims at supporting the Palestinians in the humanitarian crisis they are going through.
The Church’s 18 May statement declared that the initiative “clearly confirms Egypt’s historic and vital role as the ‘elder sister’ to her Arab brothers, a role she has always played and continues to play.”
According to the initiative, the rebuilding should be executed in collaboration with the Egyptian firms specialised in the respective work required.
