Marina Ashraf Azmy, the girl who had been in a coma for more than ten days on the fire that erupted in the Imbaba church of Abu-Seifein in Giza on 14 August, has regained consciousness and if off the ventilator. She has been moved from Intensive Carr to an ordinary hospital room to complete her recovery. Marina had lost her brother Mina and sister Ilaria in the fire; the parents were praying for a miracle to save the life of Marina who is the only child they have now.
Another boy injured in the fire, Hany, is out of bone surgery and recovering. He had lost his mother and brother in the fire.
Marina and Hany were the only two remaining in hospital among 14 injured in the fire. All the others had already received the necessary treatment and were discharged from hospital.
The fire at Abu-Seifein’s was caused by electric malfunction that led to a fire at the electric generator. Forty-one persons lost their lives.
President Sisi mourned the victims and commanded the Construction department of the Egyptian Armed Forces to repair and restore the severely damaged church. Work on the restoration process is ongoing.
