Egypt Council of Churches (ECC) has declared Rev. Rifaat Fathy as the new Secretary-General of the Council. Rev. Fathy represents the Evangelical Church in Egypt, and succeeds the Coptic Orthodox Father Bishoi Helmy who was the first secretary-general of the ECC for the past two years.
Rev. Fathy was born in 1961, and holds a degree in Geology. He also holds a BSc in Theology and BA in Arabic Literature from the Evangelical Theological College.
Rev. Fathy was pastor of the Evangelical Church in the Delta town of Benha from 2000 to 2012, and was appointed Secretary of the Evangelical Synod in 2008. He is Vice President of the African Council of Churches, and member of the executive committee of the Middle East Council of Churches.
