A fire which last night erupted in a monastery in Beni Sweif, some 100km south of Cairo, left no casualties. The
fire erupted in an empty livestock yard in the monastery of the Archangel in Ezbet Khorshid in the village of Sadmant, Ahnasia in Beni-Sweif. The fire only resulted in the burning of a few wooden beams and the remnants of unused building material that had been stored in the yard, but no one was injured. According to Father Ermiya Abdu, preliminary investigations point to a short circuit as the source of the fire, activated by the high summer temperature.
It was the Muslim and Christian villagers together who were able to put out the fire, Father Abdu told Watani.
