Representatives of a number of NGOs have joined forces and recently launched the Resilient Productive Communities project. The NGOs include the Coptic Society for Social Welfare which is a sister society to the Coptic Orthodox Bishopric of Public and Social Services, and the Arab Office Society for Youth. The project is partially funded by the European Union.
At hand to speak at the launching ceremony were Anba Yulius, Bishop of Services and of Old Cairo, and head of the Coptic Society; as well as representatives of the EU, NGOs participating in the project, and of the ministries of environment and social solidarity.
The project runs in three regions in Cairo and Beni-Sweif, a region some 100km south of Cairo.. It seeks to save the environment through making productive communities rely on clean and renewable energy. The project will run parallel awareness campaigns on green alternative energy and the rationalisation of energy use.
