President Sisi had issued a statement last Thursday condemning the Karm sectarian attack where, on account of a rumour of an affair between a Muslim woman and a Coptic man, seven houses of Copts were looted, destroyed and set on fire; and 68-year old Suad Thabet was stripped. In his statement, Preisdent Sisi instructed the governor of Minya, in coordination with the Armed Forces, to repair and restore the properties damaged in these clashes within one month at the expense of the State.
The repair works started this morning at the house of Ms Thabet, who is now publicly known as the ‘lady of al-Karam’. The three-storey building where Mrs Thabet lives houses three families, as well as a ground floor is used for commercial activity.
Repair works in the other five houses which were destroyed during the incidents, will follow.
