“Willpower and Nothing Else” is the theme title of an exhibition by sculptor Nathan Doss at Zamalek Art Gallery in Cairo. The exhibition runs till 3 March 2022.
In 40 sculptures made out of bronze and rocks, Mr Doss’s artworks seek a new aesthetic fulfillment from mother nature. From his perspective, nature explains itself without the necessity for an interpreter or an intermediary. Nature offers its wisdom and treasures to those who seek it.
Out of numerous sources and methods, including various ores, manifestations, rocks, and sculpting methods, whether hammered, smelted, or otherwise, Mr Doss is always looking for answers in this universe!
For him, sculpture is mental mathematical equations wrapped in conscience.
Born in Mallawy, in 1971, Nathan Doss obtained his Bachelor degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts and Education in 1993. He participated in many exhibitions, public and private. On the local scene, he displayed his works in public shows such as the Youth Salon, the Ahmad Shawqy Museum and al-Hanager Centre in Cairo. He took part in several private exhibitions: the Indian Cultural Centre in 2002, the Jesuits’ School in 2006, an exhibition entitled “Memory of the Body”, at the House of Zeinab Khatoun in Cairo for the benefit of the Cancer Patients, as well as other exhibitions.
Mr Doss’ work is original, innovative and unique. He wrote a book titled “The lost wax sand casting”. He earned national acknowledgment and is the recipient of several awards: among them the Rateb Seddik Award, the Small pieces Salon Prize, the prize of the Fourteenth Youth Salon, and the Order of St Mark from the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate in Alexandria in 2021.
