Within its project for documenting the history of distinguished Egyptian figures, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina recently received a rich and important collection of material concerning the prominent Egyptian geographer Gamal Hemdan (1928 – 1993), a gift from Hemdan’s brother, General Abdel-Azim Hemdan.
The collection includes important and rare documents on Hemdan’s biography and career, in addition to another collection that was never published, of books, articles, research and rare manuscripts in Hemdan##s handwriting.
It also includes copies of the honours and certificates Hemdan received, and his press archive, written by and about him, as well as a number of contributions published in scientific periodicals, and a large collection of letters between him and Arab and foreign intellectuals.
