“Happy Winter Classics” was the title of a harp concert at the Cairo Opera House three days ahead of Christmas.
Some enchanting music performed by Egyptian harpist Manal Mohei Eldin and her ensemble managed to warm hearts on the chilly December Cairo evening.
Harpist Mohei Eldin played to a full house that was treated to a joyful Christmas air of s repertoire of ten classics among which were works of Vivaldi; Rossini; Sia and Kurstin; L. Cohen; and ABBA’s Thank You For The Music.
In addition, Ms Mohei Eldin played two music pieces by Syrian Egyptian composer Farid al-Atrash (1910 – 1974), and Lebanese singer Magda al-Roumi.
Mohei Eldin surprised her audience by introducing her talented singer daughter, Amina al-Koussy, and her niece Laila Ashraf. Both performed a number of songs that were warmly received by the audience. They jointly sang the closing song: Carol of the bells, mash-up.
In celebration of Christmas, Mohei Eldin and her niece [Ashraf] wore charming red gowns, while her daughter donned green.
Manal Mohei Eldin is a renowned harpist at the Cairo Opera Orchestra; a Musician at Omar Khairat; and a Professor at Cairo Conservatoire, Cairo, Egypt.
