The Cairo Opera House will be celebrating Christmas and the New Year with four concerts in Cairo and Alexandria. The first is held at Alexandria’s Sayed Darwish Theatre, the Opera House’s Alexandria venue, on 10 December; the other three will be at the Cairo Opera House’s Main Hall on 13, 14, and 15 December.
The concerts, directed by Abdallah Saad, feature the Cairo Opera Group supervised by Soprano Iman Moustafa; the Cairo Opera Choir; and Cairo Opera Orchestra conducted by Nayer Nagi.
A collection of the most popular Christmas carols and songs will be performed by the choir and the soloists who include Iman Moustafa, Mona Rafla, Reda al-Wakeel, Rasha Talaat, Jacqueline Rafiq, Dina Iskandar, Gala al-Hadidy, Amina Khairat, Moustafa Mohamed, Hisham al-Guindy, Tamer Tawfiq, Amr Medhat and Elhami Amin.
The Cairo Opera Orchestra was officially established in 1964 and presented many of the world’s most famous operas. Its repertoire includes more than 32 famous opera operas, and its members have participated in huge operatic performances on the world’s largest theatres. The current head of the Cairo Opera House is Ines Abdel-Dayem.
