Egypt’s Agriculture Minister al-Sayed al-Quseir has announced that, for the first time in the history of Egyptian agricultural exports, these exports have exceeded 5.6 million tons, a figure not achieved even during pre-COVID times, he said.
Mr Quseir said that this was thanks to efforts by the government to promote exports through opening new markets, and modernising and upgrading the agriculture quarantine laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment.
The Agriculture Minister thanked the producers, growers, and exporters for their efforts to comply with international quality standards, so that a record figure of exports was achieved despite the COVID-related disruption in international shipping and trade. He also praised the workers at the agriculture quarantine authority for what he said was their “round the clock efforts” to facilitate the export of agricultural goods.
A report by Ahmed al-Attar, Head of the Central Administration for Agriculture Quarantine indicated that in the period from 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2021, agricultural exports from Egypt amounted to 5,640,144 tons, compared to 5,153,376 tons during the previous year.
Exports included, in descending order of quantities exported: citrus, beetroot, potatoes, onions, grapes, sweet potatoes, pomegranate, mangoes, strawberries, green beans, garlic, guava, water melon, and peppers.
