The Egyptian Ministry of Education and Technical Education has signed a memorandum of understanding with representatives of the Chinese education sector of the municipality of Tianjin, to establish Luban Workshops in Cairo, at the Advanced Vocational School for Maintenance Technology in Nasr City, and at Ain Shams University.
Luban workshop is the first international vocational training project supported by China’s Tianjin Municipality. It aims at improving academic education of top technical education students and serving the local economy via vocational training. Luban borrows its name from the Chinese inventor Luban who lived 2500 years ago, and who is considered the father of Chinese architecture; he has to his name a large number of inventions of construction tools. Today, Luban a role model for vocational and technical staff in China.
The Luban workshops to be established in Egypt are among the first 10 to be set up in Africa. They are expected to benefit Egypt’s economic development programmes through improving the skills of Egyptian students, and therefore raising the competitiveness of the Egyptian labour force.
