A new institute has been added to those of the Coptic Orthodox Church. Anba Marcos, Metropolitan of Shubral-Kheima and its Vicinities has consecrated the Anba Maximos Institute for Church Melodies and Coptic Language at the headquarters of the Diocese of Shubral-Kheima.
As its name implies, the institute teaches Coptic language and melodies, Church hymns and praises, as well as ecclesiastical sciences including the Holy Bible, Holy Mass, the Psalms, history and sources of Church hymns, Church rites, and preaching. The study extends over two years following which students are given accredited certification.
The institute was named after Anba Maximos, the revered Metropolitan of Qalyoubiya and Quesna, who departed our world in 1992. Anba Maximos was famous for his encyclopaedic knowledge of Coptic language and melodies; he was keen to teach them himself to his congregation. He was also known to have had an especially close and strong relationship with Anba Marcos who succeeded him as Bishop of the diocese.
