50 medical convoys to remote and underprivileged areas in Egypt

Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population has dispatched 50 medical convoys to remote and underprivileged areas in the country. The move, launched on 20 June and running till 30 June, comes within the presidential initiate Haya Karima, literally Decent Life, which aims at working holistic development in villages and poverty stricken areas.

Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar, spokesperson of the Ministry of Health, said that the medical convoys are moving to needy governorates and villages, while adhering to coronavirus precautionary measures.

The convoys, Dr Abdel-Ghaffar explained, carry doctors and medical staff of various medical specialties: paediatric; ear, nose, and throat (ENT); orthopaedic, surgery, ophthalmology, dentistry, cardio, dermatology, obstetrics and gynecology, family planning services, as well as X-rays and medical analysis services. They include well-stocked pharmacies. Cases requiring surgery, he said, are referred to Health Ministry hospitals.

Dr Abdel-Ghaffar said that the conveys have headed to the Upper Egypt governorates of Fayoum, Minya, Assiut, Sohag, Luxor, and Aswan; the Delta governorates of Gharbiya, Daqahliya, Sharqiya, Qualyubiya, and Menoufiya, Kafr al-Sheikh, Dumyat (Damietta), Beherira; the North Coast governorates of Alexandria, and Matrouh; the eastern governorates of Suez, Ismailiya, and Saint Catherine (South Sinai); and the Western Desert governorate of al-Wadi al-Gadid (the New Valley); as well as Cairo and Giza.
