A nationwide campaign by the Health Ministry for the early discovery of Rheumatic Heart Disease among schoolchildren and slum dwellers will start tomorrow Saturday 5 November. Minster of Health and Population Ahmed Emad Eddin will launch the campaign by announcing the opening of 30 medical centres throughout Egypt to offer free diagnosis and treatment of Rheumatic Heart Disease. When discovered early the disease is treatable and achieves high survival rates, but untreated it may cause complications that may lead to death.
The disease thrives in humid places that lack in hygiene, and is related to poor nutrition; hence its spread in slums.
