Amira Philip Matta, wife of Watani’s Editor in Chief Youssef Sidhom and mother of Dina Sidhom, Executive Editor of wataninet, passed away last Monday, 10 May 2021. Her departure was peaceful and quiet, in hospital where she had been moved a week earlier.
Amira was for me a beloved sister. She was a petite woman, bright and full of life, but she was also strong, determined, skilled, and talented. She was my brother’s faithful life-partner for 47 years, a tender caring mother for Dina, and a happy grandmother to three lovely girls: Tari, Rana, and Malak.
Amira was also a talented architect whose designs had an aesthetic quality that spoke of itself. Her works exuded art and beauty as much as functionality. Her feminine touch endowed them with a richness all of their own.
We had prayed so much for God to spare Amira’s life. But God’s timing is not our timing, and is always perfect. He answered our prayers, and is still answering them, perhaps not in the way we wished, but surely in an infinitely better way.
His comfort and support makes everything else valueless. Now it is we who ask Amira to pray for us before the Divine Throne.
May that bright soul forever rest in heavenly peace.
