In the wake of last week’s torrential rain and heavy floods in Sudan, Egypt has dispatched urgent humanitarian aid including medicine, blankets, tents, foodstuffs, and construction equipment to its southern neighbour.
Egypt also sent medical and veterinary convoys to a number of Sudanese provinces to help abate the spread of disease among livestock owing to the floods.
President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi said that the aid was an expression of the brotherly ties and shared destiny which hold together the two countries and two peoples.
According to the General Directorate of Civil Defence in Sudan, the floods and rains have killed five and injured six persons; 109 families were affected by the rains, 54 homes completely destroyed, and 55 sustained considerable damage. Schools had to be suspended.
