Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly attended on 14 March 2023 the signing of a cooperation protocol between the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and the Ministry of Finance ministries regarding the financial incentive programme of the National Project for Development of the Egyptian Family (NPDEF).
The protocol was signed by Planning Minister Hala al-Said and Finance Minister Mohamed Maeet.
According to the protocol, the Finance Ministry should provide sustained support for the NPDEF.
The NPDEF was launched by President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi in February 2022 as an integrated developmental effort to abate runaway population growth, and to ameliorate demographic characteristics such as education, health, work opportunities, economic empowerment, and cultural awareness.
The project is the cornerstone of addressing overpopulation out of a comprehensive vision that focuses on health, social, family, and economic dimensions. It is implemented over a three year period, and targets women between 21 and 45 years old.
The Finance Minister said that women with no more than two children will be offered annual financial incentives that would continue and augment until a woman is 45, but these incentives would be automatically discontinued if she has a third child.
