Organised by the British Council in Egypt (BCE) within the ‘Kids Read’ programme, a free of charge children’s day out will be held tomorrow, Thursday 1 March at Cairo’s al-Azhar Park. The Kids Read programme, which is exclusively sponsored by the HSBC Bank is among the celebrations organised by the BCE to commemorate the bicentenary of UK##s most prolific and influential novelists, Charles Dickens. Kids Read run for one year in 13 Middle Eastern countries. Through a wide range of activities, training programmes and workshops, Kids Read aims at encouraging reading for pleasure; developing the English language skills of the future generation; supporting schools; training teachers; and highlighting selected themes such as the environment and the value of money.
Children participating tomorrow in al-Azhar Park’s event will be offered activities such as storytelling, games and competitions. Their parents, on the other hand, can attend awareness workshops on how to integrate themselves with their children through book reading.
“This event is a fabulous way through which we can show our children that reading is fun. We can also develop their eagerness for reading, which reading is a major part in the child’s development process,” said Karen Daly-Gherabi, Assistant Director of the British Council.
