As Egypt’s government takes the issue of family planning to new heights, given the population explosion the country is undergoing, the Egyptian Family Planning Association (EPFA) has collaborated with Plan International Egypt, to launch a competition on the issue during Ramadan. A quiz is posted everyday right after noon, and answers are received from 4pm till 10pm when the winner is announced. EFPA is the Egyptian government’s primary partner in Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH), and it co-ordinates the delivery of family planning services by other voluntary organisations. Additionally, EFPA is a lead partner in the National Population Commission’s ongoing initiative to increase contraceptive prevalence across the country.
This competition is organised through SRH project, which aims at spreading awareness among youth and teenagers on the family planning. SRH is endeavouring to put an end to number of harmful practices such as FGM, early marriage, and sexual harassment.
According to Ahmed Hamdy, head of the SRH project, the winners will receive their awards in a celebration to be held after Ramadan. Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting, is famous for its competitions and contests.
