“The last and only standing 7th wonder of the world, a 4,500-year-old relic that will give you shivers standing next to it; you will feel its energy and awe, you will wonder how it was built.” This was how SkyDive Egypt described the Great Pyramid, inviting parachutists and skydivers to “fly around it like a Pharaoh” in the fifth edition of its annual skydiving festival Jump like a Pharaoh.
The fifth edition of the festival is this year scheduled on 2 – 9 November under the slogan “Message of Peace from Egypt to the World”.
The jumpers will be doing performances in air on 2, 3, 7 and 8 November from 9am to 4pm. On the other days, they will be going on touristic tours in various places in Egypt.
The Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Egyptian Parachute Jumping and Air Sports Federation are sponsoring the festival.
The Armed Forces will provide the festival with two helicopters and a plane, to be used in completing over 900 air jumps through 16 sorties that will be carried out by 100 international skydivers from around the world.
Jumpers will land at the foot of the pyramid of Khafre, the second of the three Giza Pyramids, in three cycles.
Saudi skydiver, Omar al-Hegelan, will participate in the festival this year for the fifth time in a row. Hegelan, is a pioneer of competitive free flying who won multiple national and international championships, is expected to share his vast experience with other festival participants.
Also participating in the festival will be world champions, Greg Crozier and Karen Joly, from Air Wax Free fly team which participates in the festival for the fourth time.
The Egyptian Parachute Jumping and Air Sports Federation declared that it hopes that skydiving would become a popular sport in Egypt and that sports club administrations will make this sport available to members at affordable prices especially because Egypt’s climate is very suitable for skydiving festivals and competitions.
