Luxor International Airport has won first prize in airport safety among airports in Africa. The airport was named the safest African airport in 2018 by the Airports Council International. Tarek Fawzi, head of the Egyptian Airports Company, received the award in Abidjan during the ACI October meeting which was attended by 51 countries representing 270 international airports.
ACI Secretary-General Ali al-Tounsi pointed out that Luxor Airport underwent intensive evaluation procedures in infrastructure, air traffic and safety prior to the decision that it was best in Africa.
ACI is a renowned event for airports. It aims at being a hub for airports and aviation companies to exchange knowledge and the latest technological developments in air transport industry. Egypt is among the key players in ACI council.
Egypt is expected to host ACI meeting next March, with the participation of 400 African and world airports, as well as experts in airports development.
