Minister of Transport Hisham Arafat and French Ambassador to Cairo Stephane Romate today attended the signing of an agreement between the Ministry of Transport and the French consulting and engineering firm in transport infrastructure, Systra.
Mr Arafat explained that through a non-refundable fund from the French government, Systra will prepare pre-feasibility studies to determine the size of demand on internal transport in the Mansoura, the capital city of Daqahliya in the East Nile Delta. The studies will help determine the most appropriate means of modern transport in Mansoura, and the best means of transport to connect Mansoura with New Mansoura.
The first phase of the project is expected to cost EGP10 million, the Minister said. He pointed out that Mansoura University’s Faculty of Engineering will help Systra with collection and processing of the required data, also with the statistics and surveying involved. The Egyptian National Authority for Tunnels will directly supervise the technical aspect of the project, Mr Arafat said.
