In an extension of the airlift created from Cairo to Beirut last August to carry emergency supplies to Lebanon in the aftermath of the massive blast at the city port on 4 August 2020, an Egyptian military aircraft has recently carried a new batch of medical supplies to the Lebanese armed forces.
The move came upon a solidarity initiative by President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi. Lebanon’s Minister of National Defense expressed deep gratitude to the political leadership in Egypt and to the Egyptian armed forces for supporting Lebanon in its distress, stressing the depth of the strategic relations between Egypt and Lebanon.
Egypt has been sending relief and medical aid to various countries to express solidarity in distress. For years, it has constantly aided African countries during conditions of drought or flooding, and has sent medical supplies to various countries in the world to help with countering the COVID-19 pandemic.
