The legal experts## authority of the Supreme Constitutional Court (SCC) has advised the SCC of the unconstitutionality of the elections law which brought in the Shura Council, the upper house of Egypt##s Parliament. The law was found unconstitutional because it gave the right to parties to run for the independents## parliamentary seats in addition to the seats assigned to parties.
Basing on the same grounds, the SCC had last June issued a ruling that the lower house of Parliament, the People##s Assembly (PA), was voted in according to an unconstitutional elections law. The PA was accordingly dissolved by the then ruling Military Council.
A ruling by the SCC on the Shura Council is expected next month.
