The Libyan National Army announced yesterday, 7 September, that a force from its special operations under Major General Tareq Bin-Ziyad has eliminated Daesh (ISIL) terrorist al-Mahdi Dangou in the region of Murzuk south of Libya. Dangou, who has masterminded many Daesh terror operations, has been long pursued by Libyan authorities. He is believed to have masterminded the kidnapping and beheading of the Libya [Coptic] Martyrs in 2015.
According to a statement released by the Libyan Army, Dangou was captured and killed after thorough investigations, follow up and a long pursuit. During the past years, the Army’s statement said, the terrorist attempted many times to evade, disappear and hide. He even leaked news of his own killing during a previous Army operation where some of his complots were eliminated. The National Army statement said that at the time news of Dangou’s killing was broadcasted to make him believe that the authorities have believed the news so that he let his guard down.
