Today, Egypt celebrates the glorious Feast of the Resurrection of Christ: the feast of love, joy and peace, salvation and deliverance from death. It is the feast that rejoices in new life.
All these meanings figure highly in the current on-the-ground reality in Egypt. Today, as we stand on the threshold of a new four-year term for President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, we are filled with hope that the path of reform and modernity we had embarked upon during his first term will bear abundant fruit and lead to a bright future.
It gives me great pleasure to extend sincere Easter wishes to the head of the Coptic Orthodox Church, her faithful and wise shepherd His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, and to the Coptic Orthodox clergy and congregation. I also offer my heartfelt wishes to the heads, bishops, clergy, and congregation of all Orthodox, Catholic and Evangelical Churches in Egypt. I pray for the Lord to protect Egypt and the Church, and to bless all Egyptians in their endeavours towards stability, progress and prosperity.
