In an atmosphere that brought to mind the days of the early Church in the first centuries, the Copts of Minya set up marquees in the courtyards of the churches that had been burnt by the Islamists last Wednesday and Thursday, and held Sunday Mass. Bishop-General of Minya Anba Macarius provided the churches with mobile altars on which Mass was held in the courtyards of Amir Tadros’s and Anba Moussa al-Aswad’s.
One of the worshippers, the medical doctor Kamal Francis, told Watani that as they prayed many shed tears for the churches they had lost. Churches in Egypt are built by the donations of the congregation who usually give generously, no matter how poor or hard-pressed they are, to have a church of their own.
