Pope Tawadros II has been given the first dose of the Chinese produced COVID-19 vaccine Sinopharm, and will receive the second dose in three weeks’ time.
The Pope talked about his vaccination during the most recent session of the monthly seminar he holds with young Copts under the title “99 minutes with the young on social media”. The meeting is streamed live on the Facebook Instagram, and YouTube channel “A Church in your home”. Pope Tawadros interacts with the young people, discussing with them spiritual topics and answering queries.
During the recent seminar, a young Copt asked the Pope whether or not it was right to take the COVID-19 vaccine despite talk of its side effects. “The COVID-19 vaccines,” Pope Tawadros said, “were produced through strenuous research and tests, and their effectiveness has been confirmed. What is circulated on social media regarding side effects may be nothing commercial competition between the producing companies.” The Pope said he had already taken the first dose of the Sinopharm vaccine and is awaiting the second.
