“Ramses the Great and the Gold of the Pharaohs”, the international touring exhibition that started in November 2021 with a stop in Houston, then San Francisco, then Paris where it opened in April 2023 and runs till September 2023, will be opening in Sydney in November 2023 and running till May 2024.
In Sydney, it will be hosted by The Australian Museum in Sydney.
On 9 July, Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) Secretary-General Mostafa Waziry inspected the halls that should host the exhibition. Dr Waziry and his accompanying delegation checked on the halls, their display set-up, and the security and precautionary measures applied to ensure the safety of the artefacts to be exhibited.
Dr Waziry was interviewed by a number of Australian media outlets, “which is good advertisement for the exhibition before it opens,” he said.
The exhibition displays 181 unique and distinctive artefacts from the collections of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, as well as from the collections of other Egyptian museums. Some of the exhibits are among the discoveries of the mission in the Bubastian Cemetry in Saqqara. The exhibits particularly highlight the characteristics of ancient Egyptian civilisation from the Middle Kingdom (2030 – 1650 BC) and until more recent eras. The aretfacts on show include sarcophagi, statues, gold and silverware, the restored funerary mask of Egyptian Pharaoh Amenemope, exceptional jewellery and furniture from the untouched tombs of the city of Tanis.
On its website, the Australian Museum in Sydney posted:
