The Coptic Church and community today lost Rasmy Abdel-Malek, renowned Coptic educator and author, aged 84. He leaves behind a rich legacy of scientific and educational contribution to Egypt and the Coptic Church.
Professor Dr Abdel-Malek was member of the Coptic Orthodox papal committee for higher education, and was a former dean of the Coptic Studies Institute and the Coptic Institute of Care and Education. He was also dean of the educational planning department at the National Centre for Educational and Developmental Studies, and a former member of the national specialised councils. Over the years, Dr Abdel-Malek took part in numerous international conventions.
Pope Tawadros II mourned Dr Abdel-Malek in a warm message of condolence. The message read:
“My sincere condolences for the passing of Dr Rasmy Abdel-Malek, the faithful servant of the Lord, whose books, writings, lectures, and studies enriched university and Church libraries.
“Dr Abdel-Malek shouldered numerous responsibilities in his service of university and Church. He served with love, faithfulness, and integrity. His face was ever smiling and peaceful in all his dealings with colleagues, students, and fellow workers in university, Church, and his wider ministry.
“We will miss in Dr Abdel-Malek a valuable scholarly and ecclesiastical stature. We bid him farewell in hope of resurrection, knowing that his memory will long remain in our hearts.
“Sincere condolences to his blessed family and church, and to all his friends and those who enjoyed his loving care and patronage.”
