I persist in my follow up on the Israeli Palestinian conflict, including declarations made by relevant international figures. I also note that, in the fierce race to the US presidential elections, the presidential candidates have no qualms about doing anything and everything, no matter how disgraceful, to garner the support of pressure groups that could tip the balance in their favour. President Biden’s administration is still blessing the decision proclaimed by their predecessor Mr Trump’s administration in 2019 recognising Israeli sovereignty over the Syrian Golan Heights, considering it part of the State of Israel. Back then in 2019, in what I see as a ‘conscience awakening’, the EU issued a statement that expressed its firm stance vis-à-vis the US decision. The statement, announced in a press conference at the time, is worth reporting; it reads:
“On behalf of the current EU members of the Security Council, France, Germany, Poland, the UK and Belgium, we would like to make a brief statement on the occupied Golan Heights in the context of the US Presidential proclamation issued yesterday, stating that the United States recognises that the Golan Heights are part of the State of Israel. Our position on the status of the Golan Heights is well known and we would like to make it clear that this position has not changed. In line with international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, notably resolution 242 and 497, we do not recognise Israel sovereignty over the territories occupied by Israel since June 1967, including the Golan Heights. And we do not consider them to be part of the territory of the State of Israel. Annexations of territory by force is prohibited under international law. Any declaration of a unilateral border change goes against the foundation of the rules based international order and the UN charter. We raise our strong concerns about the broader consequences of recognising illegal annexation. And also about the broader regional consequences.”
I keep on receiving video footage of opinions expressed by political activists on what takes place today in the Israeli Palestinian conflict areas, exposing the gruesome reality of the aggravating events. I here print an opinion by Andrew Feinstein, a South African writer, filmmaker and researcher, and former member of the South African Congress. He said: “I’m Jewish. My mother was one of 20 odd survivors of the Holocaust, so to describe me as anti-Semitic, given my history of anti-racism and my work on genocide prevention, my invoking of the Holocaust, of which my mother’s family were victims, is simply an absurdity. The so-called Western world is prepared to sacrifice the entire architecture of international law that has been put in place post World War II, specifically to prevent there being another genocide like the Holocaust. We are prepared to rent all of that asunder so that Israel can continue to murder 247 Palestinians on an average day, 48 of whom will be women and 117 of whom will be children. We’re prepared to throw it all out. That’s the point of crisis that our politics are at now, and it is up to all of us who recognise that to actually create a counter narrative to the nonsense that is spewed by our politicians to maintain their own place in the appallingly corrupt and malfunctioning political system we have.”
I would also like to record what American far right politician Rick Wiles said on his TruNews show. Mr Wiles said:
“Here is an easy way to know if you are controlled. Is there somebody or something that you’re not allowed to criticise? If you lived in Nazi Germany, you couldn’t criticise the Nazi party. If you lived in the Soviet Union, you couldn’t criticise the Communist Party of Russia. If you live in China right now, you can’t criticise the Chinese Communist Party. If you live in North Korea, you can’t criticise Kim Jong Un. If you live in Cuba, you can’t criticise the Cuban Communist Party. If you live in America, who can’t you criticise? The Jewish lobby? Yes, on both sides. That tells you who controls the country. The fact that we’re having this discussion and we’re on the edge.. Why are we on the edge? Because we’re touching the third reel. We’re breaking the taboo you’re not allowed to discuss: the power of the Israeli lobby in America. That’s proof right there they control America. That’s controlling free speech in this country. That’s who’s eliminating the ability to criticise [their activity].. They’re going to crush anybody who questions their power. And they have that power. It’s on both sides, Democrats and Republicans; they all bow down to the Israeli lobby.”
