In recognition to her great achievements and contributions in enhancing cooperative relations between Japan and Egypt in the field of development, Mona Ahmed, former first undersecretary and head of Asian affairs sector at Egypt’s Ministry of International Cooperation, has received the Order of the Rising Sun-Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon.
A ceremony was held on 16 August 2023 at the residence of the Japanese ambassador in Cairo Oka Hiroshi, who reviewed some of her achievements.
Ms Ahmed played a significant role in the achievement of more than 17 joint projects between the Japanese and Egyptian governments, and international organisations. Among them were projects in irrigation, airports, energy, health, environment, electricity, education, culture and others.
She also served as a member of the board of trustees of the Egyptian-Japanese University of Science and Technology (E-JUST) for nine years (2013-2021).
Ms Ahmed was a member of the board of directors of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) which was built with substantial Japanese cooperation and financing.
