The Egyptian Cabinet has decided to halt load-shedding power cuts at churches during Holy Week and Easter celebrations. Power cuts are scheduled to last two hours a day, shifted over the various neighbourhoods in Egypt.
Holy Week for Copts begins on Palm Sunday, 28 April 2024, and concludes with the Feast of the Resurrection on 5 May 2024.
Spokesman for the Cabinet Mohamed al-Homsany said the decision was taken in coordination between Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and the ministers of electricity and petroleum.
PM Madbouly relayed his best wishes to Copts inside and outside Egypt for the upcoming Feast of the Resurrection.
