World’s largest vessel crosses canal
The world##s largest vessel and first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, the USS Enterprise, recently transited the Suez Canal en route to the Mediterranean Sea. The vessel was accompanied by a missile cruiser aircraft carrier and a supply ship. The Suez Canal stepped up security measures during the transition of the vessel.
Documenting the Revolution
In a first documentation of the 25 January Revolution, Egypt’s State Information Service (SIS) has published two books.
The first is entitled 25 January…a revolution of the people, in which the writer tackles events and stages of the revolution as well as statements issued by the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces. The second The 25 January Revolution in the world media, covers all news and statements about the revolution in the international media.
The SIS also issued a CD with images and various media items broadcast during the different stages of the revolution.
Organ transplant database
The Egyptian Health Ministry has signed a cooperation agreement with Italy’s National Centre for Organ Transplant to establish a patient database and link computer networks across Egypt in the domain of organ transplant, Assistant Health Minister Dr Abdel Hamid Abaza said. The agreement was inked in the Italian city of Palermo; Italy is among the top countries in the field of organ transplant.
Facebook Egypt
According to Facebook estimates, users of Facebook in Egypt reached some 6.7 million last April, thus ranking Egypt first among Facebook users in the Arab World. The most visited page, according to the estimate, is that of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, while pages on religious topics came in a close second.
Four Freedoms
Egypt and Sudan will be holding a meeting next September for the committee of the Four Freedoms agreement to decide on the steps necessary to promote cooperation between the two countries. The Four Freedoms agreement was signed between the two countries in 2004, and grants Sudanese and Egyptian citizens the freedom of movement, residence, ownership and work in either country.
Wind-generated power
Italgen Group will pump investments worth around 140 million Euros in Egypt to be allocated for a 120-megawatts wind-generated energy project in Gabal al-Zeit near Suez in the Red Sea area. Managing Director of Italgen, Giuseppe De Beni, said that his group, which operates in 22 world countries, is ready to offer contributions to “new Egypt”, voicing confidence that Egypt would create the best and most dynamic environment for investment and business.
