The General Authority of the Suez Canal Zone (SCZONE) has signed a contract with the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, to establish a vocational training centre, as announced in a SCZONE press release statement.
The centre will stand over 40,000 sq.m, and its construction cost which is expected to stand at 128 million Chinese yuan (approximately USD18 million) will be covered by the Chinese government as a grant to Egypt under the cooperation agreement between the two countries.
Once the designs and construction drawings are settled, SCZONE statement said, construction should start.
The contract was signed by SCZONE Chairman Walied Gamal Eldien, and Xiao Liuqing from the Chinese side.
According to the press release, the new centre aims to train and qualify workers, enhance their skills, and prepare them for the labour market. The training complex will consist of a training centre equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories for various industries and fields, including power, automotive, robotics, electronics and communication technology industries, as well as language education. The centre will also boast of an interactive system between the trainee and the trainer. In addition, the complex will house a residential complex for trainees as well as sports and entertainment facilities.
Mr Gamal Eldien, SCZONE Chairman said that SCZONE pays particular attention to qualifying manpower and enhancing their skills. SCZONE had already established several technical education academies and vocational training centres for workers in various industrial sectors in cooperation with its partners, Mr Gamal Eldien pointed out. These include Elsewedy-Banque Misr Academy which was founded last year at an investment of EGP45 million; and the Egyptian German Technical Academy which was also founded last year, and was established through an alliance between Siemens Energy and the German government at an investment of 22.5 million Euros.
