The word “Mama” has a magical effect on the heart; it conjures a breath of sweet breeze that freshens and comforts. “Mama” embodies life and love in tenderness, warmth, and loftiness. Mothers are rivers of life-giving waters of love.
In art, Motherhood has since time immemorial been a favourite, inspiring theme. For Egyptians it was the goddess Isis nursing her son Horus; for Christians it is the Holy Virgin tenderly carrying her Baby Jesus.
Artists have used simple, expressive formations to depict the mother and child bond. Soft lines and colour spaces, light and shadow, are employed to express the love, hope, and tenderness; warm colours burst into the fun and laughter that thrives in this intimate relation.
I remember my own mother who departed our world in March 1992. I constantly hear her encouraging me throughout my creative efforts, and sense her never-ending prayers for me. And I wish every mother all the very best as we celebrate Mothers Day.
