As energy prices skyrocket in the aftermath o the US/Israel war on Iran, and with the aim of rationalising power consumption, a package of urgent decisions by Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly is being implemented.
In addition to measures already in place aimed at cutting government spending on electricity, the PM’s decisions involve switching off all street advertising billboards, and reducing lighting on public roads.
Shops, malls, and restaurants will close at 9:00pm, extended to 10:00 pm during weekend evenings on Thursdays and Fridays. These measures will take effect starting Saturday 28 March, for a period of one month.
