“A Message for Peace” is the theme title of the 4th edition of the World Children Forum that is being held in Egypt during 24 – 30 November 2023.

In the presence of a number of representatives from 33 countries, the forum was opened by Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Ashraf Sobhi. Participating countries included Jordan, Sudan, Armenia, Argentina, Syria, Romania, Japan, Tunisia, Nigeria, Bulgaria, Pakistan, Libya, Lithuania, Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Indonesia, Poland, Iraq, Cameroon, Italy, Bangladesh, Equatorial Guinea, Spain, Myanmar, Yemen, Tanzania, Vietnam, Angola, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Palestine, Serbia, and the hosting country Egypt.

More than 700 children aged 12 to 17, as well as the winning artistic teams are taking part in the forum.

In the opening speech, Dr Sobhi noted that “The language of art enhances positive communication among children, in order to create a generation of children who aspire for peace, understanding, and revival of global heritage while taking pride in their national identity. It sends a message of peace from the children of the world.”

Among the forum activities are cultural exchange among children through developmental workshops and artistic performances at youth centres, as well as introductory visits to historical and modern sites.

Watani started as an Egyptian weekly Sunday newspaper published in Cairo. The word Watani is Arabic for “My Homeland”. The paper was founded in 1958 by the prominent Copt Antoun Sidhom (1915 – 1995), who strove for the establishment of a civil, democratic society in Egypt, where all Egyptians would enjoy full citizenship rights regardless of their religious denomination. To this day when Watani is published as a weekly paper and an online news site, the objective remains the same. Those in charge of Watani view this role as a patriotic all-Egyptian vocation. Special attention is given to shedding light on Coptic culture and tradition as authentically Egyptian, this being a topic largely disregarded or little-understood by Egypt’s media. Watani is deeply dedicated to offer its readers high quality, extensive, objective, credible and well-researched media coverage, with special focus on Coptic issues, culture, heritage, and contribution to Egyptian society.
