Khaled Abdel-Bari, President of Zagazig University in the east Delta governorate of Sharqiya, announced the opening of the third phase of the Child University, a programme at Zagazig University where special courses are arranged for children to explore and research specific topics in various fields.
Dr Abdel-Bari was accompanied by his deputy Mervat Asskar, dean of post-graduate affairs and researches; Dr Atef Amer, coordinator of the child university; as well as the newly-enrolled and former children students with their parents.
Dr Abdel-Bari welcomed the new students, and referred to the role played by the Child University in promoting culture and enhancing the scientific capacities of children, also enhancing their creativity in the fields of music, art, and literature. He said the university ranked first among Egyptian universities as regards innovative projects by students during the previous two phases.
Sunday 15 October, the university conducted an orientation tour for the new students, during which they visited the premises, including the science laboratories, the electron microscopy unit, and the scientific museum.
This is the third year in succession for the Child University, Dr Amer noted, and it has witnessed great demand. According to Dr Abdel-Bari, 296 girls and boys enrolled this year, up from 204 last year, and 79 during the first year.
