The Department of Public Groups and Services at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) in Alexandria is organising a series of lectures under the title: Towards a stable family. The series began last April and runs till the end of 2017; and consists of three topics, each divided into two subtopics.
The first topic focused on “Important skills for couples contemplating marriage”, and tackled questions relating to the first phase in a relationship, when couples are in the process of familiarising themselves with each other. It dealt with effective communication methods between couples, and broached the psychological and mental foundations for establishing a successful relation that reinforces the significance of marriage. The lecture was followed by a group discussion of the topic.
The second topic comes under the title “Elements of a successful marriage”. The first subtopic will be discussed on Tuesday 11 July 2017, the second on Tuesday 18 July 2017. Two lectures will be delivered by Tareq Malukhia, Professor of Psychiatry at Alexandria University; and Tareq Abdel-Salam, Psychologist at the Ministry of Health and Population.
Professor Rania Kalawi, Director of the BA’s Public Groups and Services, said that the lectures aim to foster the establishment of stable families capable of overcoming difficulties and day-to-day problems.
She said that lectures are followed by group discussions or workshops that attempt to apply the ‘theoretical’ knowledge imparted in the lecture to practical day-to-day situations. There will also be, she said, a presentation of the most prominent books the BA’s library includes on the topics discussed.
