“Abstract and I” is the theme title of an art exhibition by artist Ibrahim al-Motily that ran from 21 to 30 October 2023 at Isis Art Gallery in the Mahmoud Mukhtar Cultural Centre in Cairo.
Motily displayed some 40 paintings, featuring visual scene harmonious in colour and structure. His abstract style enables him to freely express his emotions with no restrictions or constraints of visual reality, allowing lines and colours to express their emotional significance through structures akin to musical notes.
Born in 1953 in Cairo, Motily received a Bachelor degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts in 1978. In the same year, he also got a Bachelor degree in scenography and theatre directing from the Academy of Fine Arts in Brera, Milan, Italy.
He worked as an interior designer at Egypt’s Radio and Television Union in 1982, and also interior designer at Channel 5 in Milan, Italy.
He has been a consultant artist for decoration and interior architecture since 2001.
“Days” was his first solo exhibition held at Atelier Del Collezione in Milan, Italy in 1975. A number of solo and collective exhibitions followed in later years.
