The Cairo Opera House’s Small Hall hosted “A Delightful Evening of Italian Operas” on 14 June 2024.
Under supervision of Dr Lamiaa Zayed, Cairo Opera House audiences were treated to charming performances of a repertoire directed by Rania Gamal and that featured Mina Hanna on the piano. The concert included arias, duets, and comic scenes from some of the most famous Italian operas: “Le Nozze di Figaro” and “Don Giovanni” by Mozart; “The Barber of Seville” by Rossini; and “Don Pasquale” and “L’Elisir d’Amore” by Donizetti.
Performing were stars of the Cairo Opera Company: sopranos Rasha Talaat and Salma El Gebaly; baritones Elhamy Amin, Ezzat Ghanem and Khaled Samir; mezzo-soprano Laila Ibrahim; and tenor Ibrahim Nagui.
The Cairo Opera Company was officially founded in 1964 and has a vast repertoire that includes more than 32 opera productions. Members of the Company performed notable roles at the most prestigious venues worldwide. Through years of dedication and diligence, the Cairo Opera Company succeeded in amassing a fan base of opera enthusiasts and music lovers inside and outside Egypt.
In Alexandria, as part of ongoing activities aimed at preserving the heritage of Arabic singing, the Cairo Opera House held a concert by the Heritage Arab Music Ensemble, under the baton of conductor Mohamed El Mogy, at the Alexandria Opera House’s Sayed Darwish Theatre” on 13 June.
The concert’s programme featured masterpieces of Egyptian Arabic songs including some of the most famous songs of Syrian-born diva Fayza Ahmed (1934 – 1983).
Performing to an enchanted, enthusiastic audience were Ahmed El Waziry, Hanan Essam, Noha Hafez, Yasser Suleiman, Hanan El Khouly, Ahmed Sabry, Mohie Salah, and Angham Moustafa.
The Heritage Arab Music Ensemble was founded to revive Arabic music heritage, a purely Egyptian legacy that was produced by a number of great musicians through successive generations. Members of the Heritage Arab Music Ensemble are selected from the most skilled musicians and distinguished voices of heritage keepers. Notably, the Ensemble performed its first concert at the Arab Music Institute in 2004.
