Copts in Saudi Arabia are elated to receive Anba Marcos, Metropolitan of Shubral-Kheima, who is in Riyadh on a pastoral visit. It has become customary for Anba Marcos to pay an annual visit to Saudi Arabia to see to the spiritual need of Egyptian Christians residing there.
Anba Marcos was received by Egypt’s Ambassador to Riyadh, Ahmed Farouq; Deputy Ambassador Diaa Hammad; and Consul General Tarek El-Meleigy. Secretary-General of the Saudi Arabian branch of the General Union of Egyptians Abroad, Hassan al-Garhi, paid a visit to Anba Marcos, which was attended by a number of Copts.
Anba Marcos expressed his happiness and gratitude at the warm reception and at his visit to Riyadh. He praised the Saudi leadership and the great effort they are putting in the development and renaissance of Saudi Arabia.
Talks about development brought about the matter of the situation in Egypt. Anba Marcos said that in spite of the current hard economic situation faced by Egypt and the world, Egypt is witnessing a remarkable shift in infrastructure, which promises to attract investments in the future.
Anba Marcos first visited Saudi Arabia in 2012 when Saudi Ambassador to Cairo Ahmed Kattan was summoned by his government. At the time, an Egyptian delegation headed to Saudi Arabia and met with the late King Abdullah bin Abdel-Aziz who appreciated the visit by the Egyptian delegation and promised Mr Kattan’s return within days.
