The Japanese company Saraya Middle East for Industrial Investment officially opened its USD12-million new factory on 25 June, at Orascom Industrial Parks within the Sokhna Integrated Zone which is part of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone).
Saraya is a leading global manufacturer of sanitation and hygiene products. Their line of business extends from hand hygiene products to all forms of sanitation such as food safety, infection prevention and control, and public health, as well as functional foods.
Held at the Orascom Industrial Development site, the inauguration ceremony was attended by Waleid Gamal El-Din, Chairman of SCZone; Japanese Ambassador to Cairo Oka Hiroshi; and Saraya President Yusuke Saraya.
With its current four production lines, Saraya Middle East factory is among the most important Japanese investments in Egypt. An area of 20,000 sq.m houses two phases of the project; the first phase stands on 8,000 sq.m and includes four production lines. In its first phase, the factory manufactures sterilisation products and supplies; natural cosmetics; bottling natural zero-calorie sugar “Lakanto”; and extracting jojoba oil which is exported to cosmetic producers operating in Europe and Asia.
According to Yusuke Saraya, his company started pumping investments in Egypt in 2018 by providing services based on Japanese technology in the fields of sterilisation, public health and beauty. The SCZone factory complex, Mr Saraya said, will serve as a hub to export the company’s products to countries of the Middle East and Africa. “We are already working with SCZone and our industrial partner to establish the second phase,” Mr Saraya divulged. This phase will include two additional production lines for sterilised latex gloves, liquid chocolate products, and chocolate intended for diets.
