Pope Tawadros II has expressed his condolence to President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi for the 15 military men who lost their lives in a terror attack against a military post in North Sinai yesterday 16 February.
Egypt’s Ministry of Defence issued the following statement on the attack:
“At 6:00 today [16 February] terrorist elements attacked one of our security stationary posts in North Sinai. The security forces confronted the terrorist elements and clashed with them, They managed to eliminate seven individuals. As a result of the exchange of fire, an officer and 14 other military men were injured and killed.”
The statement went on to say that the military were combing the area to chase the terrorists and eliminate them.
Condolences have been pouring from Arab and foreign countries, as well as from institutions inside Egypt, including the various Church leaders.
