Last week saw Pope Tawadros II welcome Wang Zuoan, China’s head of State Administration for Religious Affairs (SARA) at St Mark’s Cathedral in Abbassiya, Cairo. Wang Zuoan had arrived to Cairo the previous day on a visit that lasted several days during which he met a number of senior officials and religious figures to discuss boosting cooperation between religious institutions in Egypt and China as well as the coordination on countering religious extremism and terrorist organisations.
