After one-and-a-half-year of terror, the police were finally able to catch the outlaw Hashim Hussein Ali, the brother of Ali Hussein Ali, famously nicknamed Holako, a name which sent shivers down spines. Hashim was known to be the mastermind behind the horror crimes Holako and his accomplices waged against the Copts of al-Badraman—a village in Minya, Upper Egypt, mainly populated by Copts.
After setting up an ambush this morning in a Maadi middle class district, the police caught Holako’s brother and accomplices who were in possession of firearms and drugs. They were referred to the prosecution and detained for four days pending investigations. Holako was injured but managed to flee. The police is still after him.
In the wake of the 25 January Revolution and the subsequent security breakdown, the Hussien brother turned the lives of Badraman Copts into living hell. Holako’s gang terrorised the villagers with beatings, rape, kidnappings, arson, tribute money, and seizure of land and property, especially targeting the village Copts as easy prey. A number of locals fled their homes and livelihoods for fear of Holako’s savagery.
Court rulings and arrest orders were previously issued against the Hussein brothers, but they were always able to flee security.
According to a security source, efforts are being coordinated to bring down Holako, and other members of the gang. They are currently under strict monitoring, said the security source.
On the other hand, the terrorised Badraman Copts have sent an anguish call for help to the Minister of Interior, especially that Holako is demanding that they should drop the cases that they filed against him for killing two Copts last year. The case will be seen by Minya Criminal Court next Thursday.
