The workers with the environment preservation sector of the environment ministry today caught a three-metre long Nile crocodile near the eastern port of the Aswan High Dam. The crocodile was returned to its original home in Lake Nasser, the water reservoir behind the High Dam.
The administration of the southern natural reserves had received reports of sightings of a large crocodile near the High Dam. The perpetual presence of the huge amphibian caused a stir in the region; fishermen and workers who had to be in boats on the Nile were too terrified to do their work.
A team from the environment preservation sector made a 48-hour-long survey of the water expanse in which the sightings had been reported, and were able to identify the spot the crocodile most likely frequented.
The crocodile was caught safe and sound, and taken back to its natural habitat in Lake Nasser.
